A Conversation with Eva & Beer, Founders of Silly Baboon

A conversation with Eva and Beer Rodenburg, the mother and son duo behind the playful kids T-shirt brand Silly Baboon.
Where did the idea for Silly Baboon come from?
Beer:
It started during our family world trip in 2022. We were traveling in this old converted fire truck (our Funky Blue) with the whole family, including our two dogs. I started thinking about launching some kind of creative project, and my mom brought up this idea she had for kids' T-shirts with matching pendants…
Eva:
It was one of those ideas that had been floating around in my head for a while. When Beer got excited about it, we started imagining what it could look like, and realized we could actually do it together.
When did you decide to turn it into a real brand?
Beer:
In 2024. After the trip, we kept coming back to the idea and decided to go for it. I started working on designs and figuring out production.
Did either of you have experience in fashion?
Beer:
Nope. We learned everything by doing. And a lot of Googling.
What’s special about your T-shirts and pendants?
Eva:
We wanted to create something fun to wear that goes beyond the shirt itself. The pendant adds that extra spark. It gives character to the whole outfit. Kids love them, and they also make the shirts really nice as gifts.
What inspires your designs?
Beer:
Our backgrounds and where we’ve lived. I grew up in Curaçao, Spain, and Portugal. So even though we’re Dutch, there’s this warm, Mediterranean vibe in everything we do. We also try not to take ourselves too seriously. Silly Baboon is meant to be playful.
What’s it like working together as mother and son?
Eva:
Honestly, it works really well. We have different strengths and ideas, and it’s been fun to build this together.
What’s next for Silly Baboon?
Eva:
We’re launching our new SS26 collection soon, this time with our own fits, fabrics, and original prints. It finally feels like our vision is coming to life. We’d love to see it grow into more collections, maybe adult pieces later on, but always fun, creative, and sustainable.
